Omkareshwar Temple

Spiritual Significance & History

Omkareshwar temple is situated on Mandhata island in the Narmada River, which is naturally shaped like the sacred symbol 'OM'. The temple stands as a breathtaking example of North Indian temple architecture. Devotees perform the holy parikrama of the island to receive the blessings of both Omkareshwar and the nearby Mamleshwar temple. The serene flow of the holy Narmada around the temple adds a profound meditative energy to the space.

As one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas, this holy temple acts as a focal point of intense spiritual energy. Devotees travel from far and wide to capture a glance (Darshan) of the divine light form of Lord Shiva. It is believed that visual contemplation of the Lingam combined with the chanting of Om Namah Shivaya clears the mind of worldly attachments and awakens cosmic consciousness.
