Spiritual Significance & History
Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is situated on the route between Dwarka city and Bet Dwarka Island on the coast of Saurashtra, Gujarat. Lord Shiva is worshipped here as Nageshwar, the 'Lord of Serpents' (Nagas). A magnificent, 82-foot tall statue of Lord Shiva in a seated posture welcomes pilgrims from afar. Devotees believe that visiting Nageshwar makes them free from all poisons (both physical and spiritual) and protects them from negative energies.
As one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas, this holy temple acts as a focal point of intense spiritual energy. Devotees travel from far and wide to capture a glance (Darshan) of the divine light form of Lord Shiva. It is believed that visual contemplation of the Lingam combined with the chanting of Om Namah Shivaya clears the mind of worldly attachments and awakens cosmic consciousness.
